COB WALLS, BRICK, FLINT & STONE A SPECIALITY
Being based in South Wiltshire, the repair and maintenance work we carry out is predominately to the vernacular building materials used in the area. This usually involves cob, brick, flint, stone and chalk masonry.
Older buildings need regular maintenance and often our work involves correcting previous maintenance works where incompatible materials have been used. Consequently we are experts in the removal of cement mortars and renders and their replacement with lime. We work solely with lime mortars and renders and can colour match our replacement mortars with your existing mortar.
Where masonry has been damaged and depending on it's extent, we will either repair or replace using locally sourced materials on a like for like basis. Damaged bricks, flint and stone are repaired or replaced using local materials. Similarly we can carry out replacement of damaged chalk blocks in the Wiltshire vernacular using quarried chalk.
We specialise in Cob repairs, both to houses and garden walls. We only repair these using mass (wet) cob as originally laid. Where possible we can re-mix your existing cob and repair without any additional materials, however where replacement cob is required, we will traditionally mix cob and bring it to site.
