Cob

Cob is at the heart of what we do and we are passionate about it as a building material. We are cob builders with extensive knowledge in cob repair, whether a small patch repair, or rebuilding fallen cob walls we have the skills and experience to carry out specialist cob work. Our expertise also extends to all related cob skills, flintwork, brickwork, lime plastering and rendering and pointing, roofing and lime-washing. Cob has many attributes which even modern materials struggle to deliver:

• It is an environmentally friendly material usually only coming meters away from its source to building location. 
• It is entirely recyclable. For example where cob walls have collapsed, we are able to take this existing material, re-mix and re-lay the cob, in the traditional way. 
• Cob houses are built with thick walls. This has two key advantages
• There is a high thermal mass, which allows the building to regulate temperature well
• This mass also is a brilliant sound insulator, so cob houses tend to be calm and quite inside. 
• Cob is a hygroscopic material (absorbs and gives up moisture). When cob is maintained well this regulates the level of moisture within the house, providing a pleasant atmosphere.
