Brick

We are capable of a broad range of brick work, this covers:

• Brick repairs - removing and replacing damaged or spalled bricks with colour matched replacements
• Brick pointing - we specialise in lime pointing of brickwork
• Rubbed brickwork - rubbed/gauged brickwork repairs, repointing & replacements. 
• Chimney repairs and or rebuilding

We take great care with our brickwork repairs to ensure that they carefully blend in with the existing building. It is the detail that matters to us. This means we carefully select replacement bricks that match the existing for both colour and texture. This may mean sourcing reclaimed materials where possible or commissioning new handmade bricks as required. Our view is that the brickwork should always be the feature and not the mortar. We take care in choosing mortar mixes that are sub servant to the brickwork and match the existing mortar. 

We often work on listed buildings where the requirements are to maintain and preserve as much of the existing fabric as possible. This normally requires well disciplined bricklaying which we are able to provide. For example the chimney shown below, had previously been pointed in cement and much of the original lime mortar had eroded and washed away. It therefore required a full chimney rebuild. As this was on a listed property, it was important to keep as many of the original bricks as possible and, taking this one step further, the weathering pattern of each face. We therefore carefully dismantled the chimney, course by course, numbering each brick. The chimney was then rebuilt with each brick in the identical place as it was originally.
